Disposal Technology for Lead Battery Waste

It is estimated that by 2010, the Lead metal usage will increase to about 9,880,000 MT and gradually the Lead Battery Waste will be about 19,760,000 MT. Since Lead Battery Scrap is a Hazardous waste and unsafe disposal creates heavy Environmental / Health problems. Careful Recycling is essential, beneficial & cost effective in comparison to treatment & disposal cost.

In case they are disposed of incorrectly, these heavy metals may leak into the ground when the battery casing corrodes. This can contribute to soil and water pollution and endanger wildlife. Lead, Cadmium etc., can be toxic to aquatic invertebrates and can bio-accumulate in fish, which damages ecosystems and makes them unfit for human consumption.
Currently, a small percentage of automotive Batteries are recycled and most waste batteries are disposed of in landfill sites. But it has to be done in proper regulations.

But we have to focus on Eco-friendly & organized ways of Recycling these hazardous material. They are to be collected at garages, scrap metal facilities and many civic amenity and Organized Recycling centers.
